OpenAI had something big to announce (GPT-4o)

This is OpenAI's new flagship model which can reason across audio, vision, and text in real time.

Key highlights include:

  1. Introduction of GPT-4o, which can process text, audio, and images in real-time.

  2. Significant improvements in speed and cost efficiency.

  3. Enhanced performance in non-English languages and in understanding visual and audio inputs.

  4. Uses a single neural network for end-to-end operations, improving context comprehension.

  5. Underwent thorough safety and bias evaluations, with 70+ external experts.

  6. Features and functionalities are being released in stages.

FYI - There was plenty more in the announcement.

One in particular that caught my eye was the live translation of a conversation.

It was a great way to demonstrate the power and usefulness of the technology. Everyone can relate to this use case, whether you are on holiday or in a business meeting.

Check it out:

Making Music with AI

If you work with media of any kind, at some point you'll need to add music.

ElevenLabs are making it so that you can generate your own unique piece of music from just a prompt!

In the last week ElevenLabs shared an an early preview of what they are calling "ElevenLabs Music".

The following was generated from a single text prompt with no edits.

Text Prompt: “Pop pop-rock, country, top charts song.”

It even includes vocals.

Now it may not be top of the charts, but you can be assured creatives will find uses for this new tool.

Fly High with Meta and Lufthansa

This is a new partnership between Meta and Lufthansa, designed to enhance customer experience on flights.

What better way to while away the hours on a flight using VR:

Here's the key information on this new partnership:

  1. Travel Mode Introduction: Meta Quest 2 and 3 now feature "Travel Mode" to enhance VR experiences during flights.

  2. First Airline Partnership: Lufthansa is the first airline to offer this feature, allowing passengers to enjoy VR entertainment.

  3. Optimised for Airplanes: The mode is designed to reduce motion sickness and accommodate the limited space of airplane cabins.

  4. Enhanced In-Flight Entertainment: Aims to make long flights more enjoyable with immersive VR options.

  5. Meta’s Vision: Demonstrates Meta's effort to integrate VR into everyday life, including travel.

60 seconds with Google VEO

Sixty seconds doesn't seem like a lot, but for AI generated text to video, it's substantial.

The challenge and mark of success has always been to do with visual consistency from frame to frame. Characters, objects, or even entire scenes can flicker, jump, or morph unexpectedly between frames, disrupting the viewing experience.

That's definitely changing.

More Video Options from Adobe

Keen to keep up with the fast pace of AI, Adobe have been quick to integrate new features to their existing software.

That's been true with with Photoshop, but now it's coming to Premiere Pro too.

That means Generative AI video tools are coming to Premiere Pro which will streamline workflows and unlock new creative possibilities.

And Adobe has previewed early explorations of bringing third-party generative AI models from OpenAI, Pika Labs and Runway directly into Premiere Pro.

What does the futute of Gen AI and Premiere Pro entail? In Adobe's own words:

  • Generative Extend: Seamlessly add frames to make clips longer, so it’s easier to perfectly time edits and add smooth transitions. This breakthrough technology solves a common problem professional editors run into every day, allowing them to create extra media for fine-tuning edits, to hold on a shot for an extra beat or to better cover a transition.

  • Object Addition & Removal: Simply select and track objects, then replace them. Remove unwanted items, change an actor’s wardrobe or quickly add set dressings such as a painting or photorealistic flowers on a desk.

  • Text to Video: Generate entirely new footage directly within Premiere Pro. Simply type text into a prompt or upload reference images. These clips can be used to ideate and create storyboards, or to create B-roll for augmenting live action footage.
